Likewise Christ only once sacrificed Himself to bear the sins of many people (Hebrews 9:28)
At the top of the pyramid of the Tenochtitlan temple in Mexico, the ancient Aztecs performed a cruel ceremony, namely human sacrifice. According to their beliefs, the sun god needed human blood to dispel darkness in order to make dawn.
Human sacrifice is a horror to us -- and even more so to God. That is why Jesus' sacrifice is so amazing. However, if we want to understand it, we will understand that it turns out that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ was very different from the sacrificial ceremonies performed by those who worshiped idols.
God's Word states that because of Adam's fall, sin entered into human life. And because God is holy, something must be done to get rid of sin so that humanity's relationship with God can be restored. Jesus, who is God in the flesh, is the only Person who lives a holy life and can open the way to God by taking the penalty of human sin. And His sacrifice He made for us.
The Aztecs sacrificed humans, hoping to dispel the curse of the gods. But the living and true God sent His own Son to die in our place, as well as to fulfill His demands for His holiness and His nature which is love. Through His holy Son, Jesus Christ, we have the perfect sacrifice. But simply understanding the truth is not enough. We must accept Him.
