PAID IN FULL

For in Him and through His blood we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7)

With credit card debt increasing and new card offerings every week, many people have entered into a risky habit known as "twisting" or "switching." They shift their debt in turn to a new card that offers a temporarily lower interest rate. When the old card expires, they "transfer" their debt to the new card. According to one analyst, the danger of using this method has become fashionable, namely "you keep rolling your debt and don't pay it off right away, because it's much easier to change credit cards than pay your debts."

Is it possible to approach spiritual values in the same way? Will we be carried away by the thought that promising to change or trying harder is enough for now, as is making the minimum payment for the maximum use of our credit card? What must we do to pay our great debt of failure and sin?

The good news of the gospel is that Jesus Christ, through His death on the cross, did something we could never do--He paid our debt in full. "For in Him and through His blood we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace" (Ephesians 1:7).

How about your spiritual ledger? Do you repeatedly make minimal payments by human effort? Or has it been repaid by the grace of God? -- DCM

CHRIST PAYS HIS UNLOANED DEBT
TO PAY OUT DEBTS WE CAN'T PAY
