After Jesus drank the sour wine, he said, "It is finished" (John 19:30).
Can you perfect a masterpiece? Imagine that you are at the Louvre Museum in Paris. When you see Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, have you ever thought about picking up a palette and brush and adding an extra touch to the painting? Maybe add some color to the cheeks? Maybe change the shape of the nose a bit? That's ridiculous, you say.
For almost 500 years the Mona Lisa has been considered one of the greatest works of art of all time. How absurd it would be to think we could add something even better to this masterpiece!
Nevertheless, that is what many people do to the masterpiece of Christ, namely salvation. They thought of improving it by adding their own work.
But the masterpiece was completed when Jesus hung on the cross and said, "It is finished" (John 19:30). Then He proved that His work of redemption was finished when He rose from the dead.
When you hear that Jesus paid for your sins so that you don't have to do anything to earn God's grace, do you think it's too much to be true? Do you think that there is something you should do to get it? You can add nothing to God's masterpiece!
Receive the gift of salvation from God. Jesus redeemed all. The masterpiece is perfect --JDB
