He knows the way of my life; if He tests me, I will rise like gold (Job 23:10)
Years ago, I bought a 1964 Volkswagen from my neighbour. The car's engine was still good, but the outside looked rough. The surface was full of dents, and the sticky dirt had faded its deep blue color.
After a while, I was curious as to whether the original luster and beauty could be restored. I'm sure the dents can be removed, but what about the end result? Then I started experimenting in the worst places. I am thrilled to find that with some hard work and polish here and there, my old Volkswagen can look its best again.
As Christians, we have the potential to reflect the beauty of our Savior. But sin has left its mark on our personalities, and many traces of sin must be removed before the beautiful character of Jesus can be seen in us.
God often brings about this kind of change through a rigorous process of testing, for pressure can help to shed dirt, the stain of rebellion, and selfishness. The Bible has told us that adversity produces endurance, trial, hope, and confidence by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:3-5).
We may hope that a flash car wash can fix things, but nothing can replace the difficulties that can bring out the shine of Christ like character DJD
