PORTRAIT OF HEAVEN

We who are alive, who are left, will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17)

I asked Steve, my 10 year old son, "Why do you want to go to heaven?" I had expected to hear an answer about streets made of gold or the fun of not having to go to school or anything like that. But he said, "Because I want to meet grandfather."

By then, several years had passed since my father, Steve's grandfather, passed away to God. But I do not think that time can not reduce the admiration and loss of Steve for his grandfather who is a veteran of World War II. That was why meeting his grandfather in heaven was so important to Steve.

The hope of heaven is one of the most comforting truths in the Bible. We not only hope to be in His presence one day, but also to meet the people we love, who are waiting for us on the other side of the world (1 Thessalonians 4:14,17).

Imagine the feelings of a woman who has been widowed for 50 years, when she is guaranteed an immediate reunion with her husband. Imagine the feelings of grieving parents when they find out that their child who died due to illness will be reunited. What a beautiful hope!

The promise that we will be reunited in heaven provides a glimpse of our eternal home. Hope to meet our loved ones is a "portrait" of heaven contained in the album "hope" -- JDB
