CHANGING THE WORLD

First take the log out of your brother's eye, and then you will see clearly to take the log out of your brother's eye (Luke 6:42)

Trying to change people is a full-time job. Oh, how perfect the world would be, if other people would be like all we want to be!

A plaque in our living room holds the secret to change. The plaque is written in Dutch, but translated as follows:

Change the World --
Start with Yourself
Most of us disagree with that!

Jesus told a parable about man's inability to see his own faults. He said, "How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you do not see the beam that is in your eye? You hypocrites, first take the log out of your eye" (Luke 6:42) .

Seeing the faults of others easily without ever realizing one's own faults is not only a sign of hypocrisy. It can also remind us that maybe I am the problem in a stressful relationship. Maybe it's my attitude that needs to change. Or, I should be the one apologizing. Maybe I'm the one who needs a humble spirit.

Some of us have to keep learning about it. We cannot change other people, but with God's help we can change our own behavior. And when our attitude changes, we will see that other people change too --CHK

Change is a pleasant hope,
Although often met with opposition;
Change starts from within
and requires a lot of persistence. --Hess

WHEN GOD MAKES CHANGE IN US
HE CAN CHANGE OTHER PEOPLE THROUGH US
