SOURCE OF LIVING WATER

Jesus stood up and cried, "If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink" (John 7:37)

Lee Atwater is an American political figure. He led the presidential candidate George HW Bush's 1988 campaign to success and chaired the Republican National Committee (1988-1991). However, in the midst of all that activity, he developed an inoperable brain tumor. He died at the age of 40.

During his illness, Atwater began to realize that prosperity, honor, and power were not the highest values of life. Acknowledging the emptiness within him, he then encouraged others to work to fill the "spiritual void in American society". In her meaningful commentary, she admits, “This illness helped me realize that something that was missing in society was also something that was missing in me, namely a piece of a heart full of brotherhood.”

In his day, Jeremiah felt a similar emptiness in many of the congregations of Israel. He warned them of the dangers of personal emptiness and national emptiness. They dug a pool, he said, “a leak that could not hold water” (Jeremiah 2:13).

What about your own life? Is it spiritually dry? Ask Jesus, the source of living water (John 7:37), to fill you with His presence. Then joy and peace will overflow even in abundance --Vernon Grounds
